John’s Bikes is a traditional cycle shop in the historic town of Middleton, Greater Manchester. The proprietor, John, has had an interest in cycling and cycle-sport that has spanned decades. In his youth John took an interest in time trialling and hill climbing. Unfortunately age and responsibility came to bear down on him, but even despite that John has maintained an interest in cycling and maintained links with the cycling community. In 2012 John amassed the courage to pursue a dream. His very own bike shop.
When you visit the store, the first thing you will notice is the workshop smell. John’s very proud of the fact that the shop is a workshop – a place for mending and making.
John is more than keen to build a business that’s based on traditional values. On visiting the store, you won’t be accosted by any sales patter. You won’t get special offers or new season’s deals inflicted on all your senses. The best you can hope for is a brew and some chat about bicycles.
John’s more interested in helping people enjoy riding their bikes rather than propping up his sales figures. He has sought to build a business that’s based on good old fashioned customer service – and that seems to be working quite well for him.
John always carries a wide range of new or used bikes in store and good range of spares too. The work John has undertaken for customers ranges from puncture repairs and dérailleur adjustments to complete overhauls and custom builds. John is resourceful and well connected too – so whether you’re interested in a new bike, restoring an old bike or just getting some advice on what sort of bike, he’s more than happy to hear from you.
